Unofficial CPUT App – What can you study at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)?
Many South Africa students are trying very hard to improve their opportunities in life, and find it challenging at times to work out what courses they could apply for to get formal qualifications. This tool attempts to reduce the complex admission requirements brochure to a set of rules where the student can enter their matric or similar marks and the tool will list the faculties and courses that the student could apply for. A ‘detail’ mode is available to list some reasons why your marks may not meet a faculty or course’s requirements.
Website Facilitation
I like to use variants on the standard wordpress themes. The wordpress default themes have undergone more rigorous testing than most. They have had more ‘eye’s on them. One can easily change the look to make them unique without impacting the functions. To see the power in css changes, see the csszengarden various designs. It’s all the same html, just different stylesheets.
Media Mojo
- A clean look with strong feel was required.

- Custom archive and tweaked front page, as well as of course some custom styling.
Van Bergen Designs
Julie has an interior design business. Julie is a perfectionist and designed the look of her own site. This is a refreshed update from her original site done for her. A child theme based on the wordpress standard twenty-sixteen theme. A custom front page, custom portfolio category archive page were created and the css styling tweaked a little.
Core Development
Donald needed a small business psychotherapy and counselling website. I setup his domain name, his hosting and installed wordpress as a CMS. I have assisted with several theme updates to the site over the years. This version was a child theme based on the standard wordpress twenty-fifteen theme.
Geoff Wilson Timber Creations
A simple website for someone who wasn’t going to be maintaining it often. For Geoff’s website, I created a child theme based on the wordpress twentytwelve theme
Mojoflo.co.za for Jo Monson
A very clean minimal website was required. Jo liked the wordpress twentyten theme and just wanted a water flow header. Minimal other tweaks were made.
Lane Cove Dance Academy
Many years ago Lcda’s website needed an overhaul. the new owners also needed to maintain their web more easily. Their hosting was moved to a more cost effective platform and wordpress installed as the CMS. A standard theme template was used, slightly tailored with an image specific to the school. I recently updated it to a more ‘responsive’ theme.
Northern Districts School of Ballet
NDSB’s owners were the new owners of LCDA. The Roseville (NDSB) school did not have a website yet. The domain name, hosting, cms and web content were setup. A similar template to LCDA’s was used, with different images and content specific to that school. I recently updated it to a more ‘responsive’ theme. WordPress twentythirteen theme is a particulary ugly theme first off, however it has good basic functionality and layout, so some styling changes made all the difference.
Andrew Pahlman (html site)
Andrew just needed a basic one page ‘business’ card site. iT was coded directly in html.

icalevents has digital download with paypal payment functionality. It uses that garish twentythirteen theme as a base with some custom css and template pages.

Charlie Pahlman Memorial (html site is now > 10 years old)
Charlie had an extensive network of friends all over the world who wanted to come together and share in the celebration of his memory. The website is written in frontpage generated html and allows tributes to be entered and sorted. There is also an extensive photo gallery with contributions from all over.
Sadly some other websites are no more, some non-profits, some memorial sites, some small business.
