Page data
The page data can then be edited, just like when you create a page or post. Help on how to use the editors to edit the text in the text area will be coming later.
The page data fields (optional) are on the right hand side of the create or edit page. If you cannot see the options for a field, then click on the white plus sign next to that field and the options should be displayed below. The main fields are :
- page parent - selecting a page parent will create a “tree” menu structure or page hierarchy - the current page will be come a sub-page,
- page template - this should only changed from the default template to create a special format page (such as a links or sitemap page) Typically you will not need to enter any text for a special format page.
- post slug is optional and can be used to create a different URL for the page - if not specified then the page title will form the URL. For example this page has a slug that is slightly different (shorter) than the URL.
- page order - can be used to control the order that the pages appear in the menu - any number can be entered and the pages will be sorted numerically. Some pages can have the same number if you don’t care about the order. Eg: I suggest creating a standard for yourself with enough range for the web your are contemplating. eg: 1 to 10 or 10 to 99. I usually leave some number spaces between, especially at the lower end in case I decide a new page has to be the absolutely first page, then I don’t have to go around updating the other pages.
