Every now and then it happens…. even though I meticulously keep an encrypted password protected record of all the many passwords (over 140 and counting) required to operate in our electronic world today…. I get caught out and it is usually with the simple ones.
This time it was admin on my localhost test installation, with the email not working. A few expletives went through my head (the dogs were listening) and I mentally kicked the table leg…..
But actually it was not really a problem:
- Login to your phpMyAdmin (lucky I had that saved hmm?)
- Browse, browse to your wp_users table, and then to your admin entry
- Click edit, and then in the function box, select MD5. Enter new password, save.
- Voila - login again.
- Make a note in your secure, encrypted, keyfile protected password stash that you of course have backed up on 3 different media and locations!
