If you ever need to manage your domain name, move your hosting, and of course once a year renew it, then it must be easy and trustworthy – the tools must work and the job get done.
Recently a client already had domains registered through 123-reg.co.uk, and tucows. It is always useful to know of some alternative providers, so I looked into using them for the additional domains. 123 are a reseller of tucows. One can not actually buy direct with tucows, although there is a central platform to manage the domains.
So just checking them out, I found an entire forum designed around 123-reg complaints. Granted every service provider will have some aggrieved customers at some point, however this seemed a but much.
Did a quick bit of google research and decided that for the relatively basic, but important act of registering new global domains, I’d have to stay with godaddy. If you only want one domain with some icdsoft hosting, you could do it all in one go with icdsoft.
I use godaddy for many domain purchases -I don’t like their interface and their relatively high pressure to buy other products or add-on features, however they are cost effective (probably need those add-on sales to make money!), probably the biggest, the tools are there and it all works and they have a reputation for good support. Avoid their high pressure sales – keep clicking that “no-thanks” button, just get what you need.
